Happy New Year Friends!
I hope everyone enjoyed the holiday season. We spent a good amount of time on the road visiting family and friends. The weeks have flown by, and I must admit, I found myself missing my yoga nidra practice and this community.
So let's do it together. Let's realign and take some time to allow for stillness.
There is a lot going on in the world right now. My heart is especially heavy for those facing the wildfires in the beautiful state of California. But then it makes me smile to think of the "snowmageddon" that landed back home in the DC area. As I often say, Mother Nature has her ways of slowing us down.
According to Ayurveda, the Winter season is predominant in the kapha dosha with the elements of earth and water. I love this time of year, and the opportunity to slow down, nest and recoup in anticipation of the longer, sunfilled days that lie ahead.
If we're not careful however, the cold, damp, heavy qualities of the kapha dosha can weigh us down a bit too much leading to feelings of stagnation and the "winter blahs." To keep kapha in check, consider one of the key principals of Ayurveda, "opposites balance."
Break up the feelings of congestion with some invigorating movement, warm but light, nourishing and easy to digest soups and meals, and anything that leaves you feeling lighthearted, well-rested, and energized.
I'll be sharing more Ayurveda tips for managing the winter blahs in the weeks to come. For now, consider exploring the balance between resting and moving your body.
Speaking of rest...join me on Thursday nights to rest your body and mind and realign your spirit with breathwork and yoga nidra. No experience necessary.
